“Statin is use in treatment of hypercholesterolemia“

* HMG-CoA is converted to mevalonate by HMG-CoA reductase

• Then mevalonate is further converted to cholesterol
• statins are competitive inhibitors of HMG CoA reductase
• which will furthur inhibits cholesterol formation
• when statin is used as drug it inhibits HMG-CoA reductase so HMG-CoA cannot be converted to mevalonate,so mevalonate cannot further conert into cholesterol
• Thus statin is use in treatment of hypercholesterolemia
