**DIARRHOEA CAUSES NORMAL ANION GAP ACIDOSIS**

  * DIARRHOEA : Excessive loss of intestinal secretions,fluid and electrolytes in stool.
  * ANION GAP : Difference between concentration of Cations and Anions present within blood.
  * Anion Gap = (Na• + K•)-(HCO3 - + Cl-)
  * Actually the unmeasured anions present in trace amount constitute the aniongap.{12mmol/L}.

   *Diarrhoea ----> Loss of intestinal fluids ----> Loss of bicarbonate (HCO₃⁻) in stool ----> Decrease in plasma bicarbonate ----> Metabolic acidosis develops ----> Kidneys retain chloride (Cl⁻) to maintain electro neutrality ----> ↑ Chloride (Hyperchloremic) ----> Na⁺ − (Cl⁻ + HCO₃⁻) remains normal ----> NORMAL ANION GAP (Hyperchloremic) METABOLIC ACIDOSIS
