SAMPLE HANDLING DURING COVID 19

  1. Samples are received in double packaging from transport team.
  2. Routine test is carried out as per routine SOP for handling of patient specimen.
  3. For centrifugation , the sample after being taken in the test tube was plugged by a cotton ball.
  4. After centrifugation the samples are kept for 5 min on table rack without removing the cotton plug.
  5. After 5 min the plug is removed and supernatant is discarded in 1% sodium hypochlorite filled yellow bucket and the sediment is given to the pathologist for microscopic examination.
  6. After completion of routine processing urine samples are stored for 6 hrs at room temperature & urine samples are directly discarded into red bag by servant on daily basis.
  7. Body fluid samples are stored for 24 hrs in refrigerator.After storage period, body fluid samples are taken out of refrigerator & directly discarded into red bag by servant on daily basis.
  8. Red bags are carried out by Envision on daily basis for further disposal procedure.
