• A cleaning routine is established for the work area daily and thorough cleaning once a month.
• Area is kept as clean as the work allows. Work surfaces are kept as clean as possible, with only those items needed for the immediate project on that surface.
• Cleaning of all working surfaces is done twice a day with 1-2 % sodium hypochlorite.
• All apparatus(s) are thoroughly cleaned and returned to storage upon completion of usage.
• Floors are kept clean and free of tripping hazards.
• Chemical containers are clean, properly labeled and returned to storage upon completion of usage. • Acids are not stored above shoulder height or in unprotected metal cabinets.
• Chemicals that have reached their expiration date are replaced.
• Frequently used or heavy items are not stored on top shelves. Supplies used daily are placed close to the work area and items used periodically are placed on nearby storage areas.
• All small spills are clean up immediately. Know what to do in the event of a hazardous material spill and take appropriate action immediately.
• Passageways and access to emergency exits are kept dry and free of obstruction.
• Combustible material such as paper, cardboard boxes, or pallets are not allowed to accumulate. Set up a process for immediate disposal or filing of items.
• It is ensured that proper collection containers for biohazards, sharps, and paper trash are placed near the point of use and are adequate of size.
• Collection receptacles are not overfilled.
