SOP for INCUBATOR

1. PURPOSE: This instrument is used for incubation of sample in Reticulocyte count test

2. LOCATION: Hematology Laboratory

3. OPERATION:

• The incubator is switched on and allowed to warm up to the required temperature.

• The incubator is started to use after the temperature has reached 370C.

• The Samples are kept inside after the temperature has reached 370C.

4. MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE:

• The incubator is cleaned weekly and after spillage of infectious material. The interior of the incubator is cleaned using sterile cotton or gauze soaked in 70% Alcohol. After cleaning, the interior is allowed to dry completely.

• The temperature of incubator is recorded daily in the morning and in the evening in the temperature monitoring sheet which is pasted on the incubator. The incubator should maintain a constant temperature of 350C ± 20C.

• Daily temperature ,monitoring is carried out , the records of which are filed in in c\records \file\22 \Inernal maintainance records

5. VALIDATION OF INSTRUMENTS: To be done on installation of new Incubator & after Repair or Service. Use a calibrated thermometer to ensure accuracy of temperature checks.

6. BACK UP PROCEDURE FOR EQUIPMENT FAILURE: In case of failure, incubation is done in other incubators of Bacteriology laboratory.

7. RESPONSIBILITY: Technical staff and doctors

8. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: Any operating problem should be recorded and to be brought in notice of the laboratory In-charge. Service persons are informed regarding the problem as soon as possible to solve the problem.
