1. Specimen identification and labelling:
Staff responsible: Lab. technician under supervision of Resident doctor.

SAMPLE: Body fluids, CSF, sputum, urine & BAL
TYPE OF CONTAINER: Clean labelled plastic container
CALIBRATION PROCEDURE: N.A.
PROCEDURE:
Servant/relative comes to the cytology processing room with sample. Resident doctor checks the request form and sample details.
If everything regarding samples and request forms are verified, then sample is accepted.
Technician gives the cytology id no., details of which are entered into sample receiving register.
Resident doctor does gross examination of sample and writes it down on the request form.
2. Sample Rejection Policy :
Cytopathology sample are not rejected on the basis of poor sample integrity. They are all accessioned and appropriate remarks the incorporate in the gross, microscopic descriptions and diagnostic interpretations.
In case of any discrepancy of sample identification and traceability or sample misleading, the sample is not processed for examination till relevant information are obtained. Meanwhile concerned clinician is informed and necessary correction are made. In the intervening period, the sample is not discard.
